The Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), a unique
institution devoted to the research, teaching and application of statistics,
natural sciences and social sciences. Founded by Professor P.C.Mahalanobis in Kolkata on 17th December, 1931, the
institute gained the status of an Institution of National Importance by an act
of the Indian Parliament, the Indian Statistical Institute act, in 1959. ISI is
completely funded by Ministry of Statistics and Programme
Implementation, Government of India.
SQC & OR Unit, ISI, Chennai commenced its
operations from 1959. It has served a wide variety of organizations, both
Manufacturing and Service, across the country through training and consultancy
in the fields of Statistics and Operations Research. The Chennai unit of ISI has to its credit
several theoretical and applied research work in Statistics and Mathematics and
many of the projects undertaken have been breakthrough applications.
